SF schools turn Outside Lands parking chaos into fundraising gold
Briefly

Golden Gate Park is hosting three consecutive weekends of concerts, a first for San Francisco's festival history, attracting hundreds of thousands of concertgoers. While events like Outside Lands have generated over $1 billion for the local economy since 2008, the neighborhoods affected receive minimal compensation. A mere $35,000 is allocated to offset disturbances from concerts, divided between the Richmond and Sunset districts. Local residents and schools are turning this challenge into opportunities by charging for parking, with rates between $40 and $100 per day.
Each year, Another Planet Entertainment pays $35,000 into a Community Benefit Fund for District 1 and District 4 to offset the impact the Outside Lands and Polo Fields concerts have on our communities.
Lawton has been offering parking for OSL for the past several years, charging concert attendees to use our blacktop and driveway as a parking area.
