Whole Foods is currently facing supply chain issues due to a nationwide technology system outage at its primary distributor, United Natural Foods (UNFI), described as a cybersecurity incident. The outage is affecting UNFI's ability to ship products, resulting in delivery schedule disruptions and limited product availability. Whole Foods has instructed employees to communicate that they are facing "temporary supply challenges" to customers. UNFI's CEO announced the company took its network offline after the cyberattack detection, but no clear recovery timeline has been provided.
When reached by TechCrunch, Whole Foods spokesperson Nathan Cimbala said: "We are working to restock our shelves as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused for customers."
The company disclosed the cyberattack on Monday in a filing with federal regulators, and UNFI's chief executive, Sandy Douglas, told investors Tuesday that the company took its entire network offline on Friday after detecting the intrusion.
