Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. announced intentions to eliminate eight petroleum-based food dyes from U.S. food products within two years due to potential health risks. Following his commitments to ban various harmful food additives, his plan aligns with state-level initiatives pushing similar bans. Public health officials, including FDA director Marty Makary, emphasized the need for a transition to natural alternatives. Experts noted that these food dyes might contribute to broader dietary issues rather than being the sole concern.

These chemical dyes are likely only part of the problem. There's so much more to food than single factors, Melanson says.
