In a culinary experiment, I tested five frozen meals from Trader Joe’s in my air fryer. The shrimp burgers and carne-asada burritos were notably successful, showing great texture and flavor. The chicken fried rice provided a better texture than microwave cooking but the rice didn't crisp up as much as desired. Despite being designed with air-frying instructions, the chiles rellenos and French onion soup didn’t meet expectations, highlighting that not every dish benefits from this cooking method.
Overall, the shrimp burgers were a standout success, showcasing how some of Trader Joe's frozen items are perfectly suited for air frying, delivering remarkable taste and texture.
While making chicken fried rice in the air fryer offered better texture, the rice itself didn’t achieve the desired level of crispiness, falling short of expectations.
Despite the clear air-fryer instructions on the chiles rellenos box, this dish left me underwhelmed, illustrating that not all frozen foods translate well to air frying.
My experience with French onion soup in the air fryer was disappointing; I couldn't achieve the expected crispiness or bubbling effect typically associated with the dish.
