Toasting to 10 Years of Marriage Equality and What We Will Fight to Keep - San Francisco Bay Times
Briefly

A decade ago, significant Supreme Court rulings brought marriage equality to the United States. Two landmark cases invalidated discriminatory laws, ensuring same-sex couples received equal protections. The journey to achieving marriage equality involved significant struggles, bravery, and a collective effort. Despite progress, there are ongoing threats to civil rights, impacting LGBTQ+ individuals and other marginalized communities. The importance of unity in fighting for rights is emphasized. Celebrating this anniversary acknowledges both achievements and the need for continued advocacy in the face of current challenges.
Ten years ago, my wife Kris and I stood on the plaza of the Supreme Court, beaming as we heard the ruling that brought marriage equality to all of the United States.
The path to marriage equality was not straightforward or simple. There were detours and dissent, fierce commitment and radical bravery.
We all see what is happening to civil rights in this country, as the current administration continues to degrade and debase LGBTQ+ people, women, immigrants, and other vulnerable members of society.
On this 10-year anniversary of marriage equality, we toast to what we have and what we will fight to keep!
