Singer-songwriter Gordi on queer shame and working with Troye Sivan
Briefly

Sophie Payten, known as Gordi, reflects on the five years since her last album, Our Two Skins. After initially struggling to write new music, Gordi returned to the medical field as a junior doctor amid the COVID-19 pandemic, which left her feeling creatively stifled. Experiencing significant emotional weight in her role as a physician, she found it difficult to reconcile her personal feelings with the painful realities faced by patients. Now, as normalcy returns, she's reigniting her passion for songwriting while navigating life in both the music and medical worlds.
Her desiccated motivation was understandable. Having begun junior doctor training in 2019... she quit her job to tour throughout 2020. Then, with Covid-19... her medical experience was needed more than her music.
Creatively, she was stifled... 'Who am I to write a song when this is happening?' she remembers thinking. 'My own feelings felt so dwarfed by what was happening.'
