The Lucia Mar Unified School District board meeting featured a heated discussion about the presence of transgender athletes in girls' locker rooms. High-school junior Celeste Diest expressed her distress over changing in front of a biologically male trans athlete, sharing her feelings of being traumatized and her concerns over privacy violations. Her emotional plea emphasized the conflict between individual rights and the safety of female athletes, prompting applause from the audience despite attempts by board president Colleen Martin to silence them. Diest's remarks ignited discussions about the rights and safety of female students in school environments.
I went into the women's locker room to change... a biological male watching... This experience was beyond traumatizing.
Adults like yourself make me and my peers feel... our privacy was and still is completely violated.
I just want to ask 'what about us?' We cannot sit around and allow our rights to be given up to cater to an individual.
Sadly we have to try and regain our rights back. I hope you put effort into the restoration of our school safety.
