Suzanne Ford, the Executive Director of San Francisco Pride, is reassessing security measures for the 2025 Pride events due to rising threats against the LGBTQ+ community, especially following recent political rhetoric. Ford highlighted the sense of vulnerability felt by the transgender community, remarking that the current environment feels hostile and unsafe. With the expectation of increased threats, the Pride organization is also planning to allocate more funds for security, with significant costs already spent on safety for pride events in the past.
Our trans community faces 4 years of persecution. No one is coming to rescue us. Many people have contacted me over the last week to ask if we are ok. Hell, no, we are not ok! It feels like we have nowhere to turn.
I expect people are going to be emboldened and we are going to encounter more threats this year. We are going to take out our security plans and make sure there aren't some things we need to tighten up a bit.
