Olly Alexander, known for his role in 'Skins' and leading band Years and Years, launches his solo album 'Polari', signifying a new creative direction. Having parted ways with his band in 2021, this album reflects an artistic rebirth. The quirky title track showcases collaborative improvisation with producer Danny Harle, drawing from 1980s and '90s dance music influences, particularly resonating within the LGBTQ+ community. Alexander connects his sound to his past role in 'It's a Sin', enhancing the album's depth with a nod to gay history and culture.
"It's kinda funny. I feel like I'm sort of starting out again. I kind of feel like a debutant," Alexander says.
"We were just kind of pushing each other to make something that felt really experimental... like Janet Jackson's 'Rhythm Nation' drums, which [are], like, super industrial."
