The long-unsolved case of a woman found dead in Florida in 1988 has been resolved with the identification of Pamela Leigh Walton, a transgender woman. Initially mistaken for a cisgender woman, her identity was confirmed through DNA testing facilitated by the DNA Doe Project. Walton, assigned male at birth and adopted at age 5, was linked to Kentucky. While the cause of death remains unknown, her story highlights the struggles faced by the trans community, illustrating systemic issues that persist in society. Investigations are ongoing with public assistance requested.
It was clear from the start that our Doe had strong family ties to Kentucky, but we didn't know for sure if she was born there or if she ever lived there.
Pamela's story includes many common themes that trans people face, indicating the unique struggles and societal challenges they still encounter today.
