Russian strike on civilian bus in northern Ukraine kills nine
Briefly

A drone attack in Ukraine's Sumy region resulted in nine civilian deaths as a minibus was targeted shortly after peace talks between Kyiv and Moscow. The attack, described as cynical by local authorities, left four others injured. This incident occurred hours after both nations engaged in their first direct discussions since 2022, which ended with an agreement for a prisoner exchange but no ceasefire was reached. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy urged for sanctions against Russia if a peaceful resolution is not attained, maintaining the pressure for an end to hostilities.
The administration said, adding later: Unfortunately, the death toll has risen to nine. Four people were wounded in the attack, the administration said.
After the meeting, Volodymyr Zelenskyy renewed his calls for sanctions on Moscow if it failed to agree to a ceasefire.
Our position if the Russians reject a full and unconditional ceasefire and an end to killings, tough sanctions must follow, the Ukrainian president said on X.
The two sides agreed a large-scale prisoner exchange but no ceasefire, saying instead they would commit to trade ideas on a possible truce.
