Exclusive | Ukraine war vets with amputations flee to NYC's Staten Island for refuge and care: 'It's a war of exhaustion'
Briefly

Two injured Ukrainian war veterans, Vitaliy Fomenko and Hennadiy Degtyar, are now living on Staten Island while receiving prosthetic legs. Both men, from different backgrounds, served in the war against Russia and sustained leg injuries. As the anniversary of the war approaches, they reflect on whether their sacrifices are worth it. Degtyar expressed the fatigue faced by both soldiers and civilians, while Fomenko emphasized the need for Ukraine to emerge victorious, fearing that any territorial concessions would render their struggles meaningless.
Degtyar, the dad of a teenage boy, recently told The Post through a translator. "Of course everyone is tired, both soldiers and civilians, but we are doing everything we can, soldiers and civilians, beyond our possibilities. It's a war of exhaustion."
Fomenko stated, "If [the Russians] force us to give our territories, all of this trauma, all of this sacrifice, were in vain for what we are fighting."
