"I was devastated. It’s a big, enormous goal of mine." Susan Gapka shares her disappointment after the Toronto Waterfront Marathon sold out before she could register for the half marathon.
"I was on the hunt for a bib somewhere and shocked and surprised that there were people trying to scam me... be careful of scammers." Gapka recounts her experience with scam attempts while seeking a race bib on social media.
"We keep emphasizing the only way to do it is through Race Roster," said Charlotte Brookes, stressing the importance of using official channels for bib transfers to avoid scams.
"Police recommend exercising caution in online transactions," said spokesperson Stephanie Miceli, highlighting the need for awareness as scammers target inexperienced runners.
