Carson City, Nevada is offering two lucky hikers $5,000 each to embark on a unique thru-hike along a newly created 1,600-mile trail to Lake Tahoe while sharing their journey through videos.
"About 50% actually sent in a video and are really interested," said Visit Carson City spokesperson Lydia Beck, emphasizing the need for applicants to have backpacking experience due to challenging weather.
"I don't think this is for a rookie hiker," Beck added, pointing out the tough obstacles like heavy snowfall, fires, drought, heavy rain, flooding, and debris that hikers may encounter on the trail.
"It really helps in getting that diversity and equity onto the trail," Beck highlighted, expressing excitement about providing opportunities for diverse hikers to experience the hike.
