Report Shows Positive Effect on Recruitment, Retention of Remote Work
Briefly

A new GAO report reveals that the widespread implementation of remote work among federal agencies prior to its cancellation by the Trump administration had significant benefits for recruitment and retention. Agencies reported that remote job postings attracted substantially more applications, with an average of 366 applications for remote roles compared to just 51 for non-remote. Furthermore, agencies that offered more remote positions were more successful in meeting hiring goals, especially in crucial fields with skill shortages. Additionally, those that analyzed retention found that remote work availability correlated with lower attrition rates, enhancing employee stability.
Most agencies reported analyzing how remote work affected their ability to recruit and retain staff and found offering it likely had positive effects.
GAO said that its own analysis shows that remote positions may have been a factor that helped agencies meet goals for recruiting and hiring new employees.
