The new rules are about a dozen pages long and are split into two sections: ensuring employees' rights and employer responsibilities at 82 degrees, and employer obligations at 87 degrees in indoor workplaces.
Employees are entitled to at least two gallons of water per day once indoor temperatures reach 82 degrees; this equates to approximately two 16.9 oz water bottles per hour.
California's journey to implementing these rules began in 2016, culminating in Cal/OSHA's approval by the Office of Administrative Law on July 23 after years of drafting and approvals.
