The Trump administration has mandated a return to in-person work for federal employees, stating this is crucial for improving government efficiency. Non-bargaining employees of the Department of Defense and Department of Veterans Affairs are required to return by specified February deadlines. Notably, 54% of 2.3 million federal workers are currently in-person, while only 10% work fully remotely. This policy will end all telework agreements for many employees, with exceptions for disabilities or military spouses given on a case-by-case basis.
DoD components will terminate telework and remote work agreements for all DoD employees who work remotely or via telework within 50 miles of their agency worksite.
Return to in-person work requirements for bargaining unit employees will be announced at a later date.
