AFGE National President Everett Kelley emphasized, 'Collective bargaining agreements entered into by the federal government are binding and enforceable under the law. We trust the incoming administration will abide by their obligations to honor lawful union contracts.' He warned that if the administration fails to honor these obligations, the union will take necessary actions to enforce their rights.
Kelley clarified misconceptions about federal telework, stating, 'Rumors of widespread federal telework and remote work are simply untrue. Only ten percent of federal workers are remote, and those with hybrid arrangements still spend over sixty percent of working hours in the office.' This challenged the narrative that many federal employees are not returning to work.
Kelley also highlighted the benefits of remote work, noting, 'We support telework where it delivers for both the taxpayers and the workers who serve them. Telework and remote work are tools that have helped the federal workforce be more productive and efficient, and we’ll continue to advocate for their use where appropriate.'
