Elon Musk's push for federal workers to return to the office has drawn criticism from union leader Randy Erwin, who argues that Musk misunderstands federal employees and their contributions. Following an executive order mandating in-office work, Erwin expressed doubt that Musk recognizes the reality of government jobs. Musk's remarks suggest that workers taking advantage of remote work during the pandemic are unfairly benefiting, while Erwin contends that the image of federal workers as shirking their responsibilities is a harmful myth that undermines their true work ethic.
"I don't think he knows the first thing about federal government," Randy Erwin, the national president of the National Federation of Federal Employees, told Business Insider in an interview.
"If federal employees don't want to show up, American taxpayers shouldn't pay them for the Covid-era privilege of staying home," Musk wrote.
"There's this myth that federal workers aren't coming to work," Erwin said.
