Austin, TX, has taken over as the most appealing rental apartment market for remote workers, dethroning Nashville, TN, which had held the position for two consecutive years. The analysis from Capital Economics highlighted factors such as job market, living costs, and climate, with Austin, Nashville, and San Antonio, TX, ranking highest. The report also noted significant drops in remote worker preferences for cities like Detroit and Tampa, due to rising living costs and declining job market scores, affecting their rankings dramatically.
"Austin and San Antonio offer affordable, and falling, rent levels, as well as plenty of for-sale inventory, drawing in buyers and renters alike," says Realtor.com® senior economic research analyst Hannah Jones.
Detroit's popularity among telecommuters plunged this year due to an above-average surge in living costs, coupled with a significant decrease in its labor market score, landing the Motor City in the 49th spot.
Tampa is more affordable than Austin, but higher-priced than San Antonio and faces increased public perception challenges that have affected its rental market ranking.
Another major Texas city claimed the third spot, indicating a broader trend of affordability and desirability among Texas cities for remote workers.
