My two cents (short version): I have an ex that I was very in love with. We broke up at some point, and he moved to another state. A few months later, he was killed in an accident. That's was in 2008.
Fast forward to now. I'm married to his older brother. We have a wonderful marriage. Granted, his brother and I had broken up before he was killed...and he and I were close friends for years before getting married.
There are differences between my scenario and yours. I don't think you're wronging your deceased friend, though.
