A person shares their concern for their friend Mabel, who experienced workplace hostility from a new boss. Despite encouragement to find a new job, Mabel chooses to remain due to perceived flexibility. Recently fired, she feels worthless and inundates her friend with negative texts. The supportive friend offers help but grows frustrated with Mabel's responses and ultimately sends a boundary-setting text. Afterward, the friend receives no communication, leading to uncertainty about future interactions.
I offered any assistance I could--sending her leads on jobs, offering to look at her resume, even offering to watch her kids if she had interviews.
Every day she'll send text messages about how she's a failure and worthless, and if I don't respond, or respond with some canned answer... she'll text something like, 'Are you even listening to me, do you care?'
Finally, I sent her a text: 'Mabel, I love you, and I am here when you are ready to let me know how I can be there for you, but until then...'
Now, it's radio silence. Was I wrong to send that text? Where do I go from here?
