Dear Mary: My mum is barely dead and my dad seems to have already found a replacement in a woman she didn't like
Briefly

An adult child is upset after visiting an elderly father while dropping off a home-cooked dinner. The child has been worried about the father's wellbeing since the mother died at the beginning of the year and has been balancing caring visits with work and household responsibilities. The child regularly provides meals because the father never handled household chores and depended on the mother for cleaning and meal preparation. The mother previously took pride in caring for him, ensuring he was well fed and presentable. The caregiving burden and recent bereavement have increased the child's stress and concern for the father's ability to manage alone.
I'm really upset after a visit to my dad during the week when I was dropping off a dinner for him.
I've been really worried about him since my mum died at the beginning of the year, and have been doing my best to get around to him, as well as working and keeping the house going.
I always try to drop a home-cooked dinner to him, as he was one of those men who never washed a spoon and left all household chores to my mum, who, to be fair, took great pride in taking care of him, always feeding him well and turning him out well.
