New specialty grocery store to anchor 5-story Bay Area development
"Woodlands has a long-standing commitment to building trust and loyalty in the communities it serves, and we believe this store will become a gathering place for the community and a critical partner in San Mateo's future,"
"This marks a major milestone for Woodlands as we plant our roots beyond Marin and expand into the Peninsula,"
"We're excited to create a space where guests can enjoy fresh food, in fresh air, with remarkable care."
Woodlands Market will occupy about 19,000 square feet on the ground floor of the five-story, 104,000-square-foot B Street South development at 222 E. Fourth Ave. in downtown San Mateo. The project will replace a Draeger's that closed in February and will include office space, 10 low-income housing units, and a three-level garage with 221 on-site parking spaces. Lane Partners and Prometheus Real Estate are leading the development, with construction expected to begin in early summer 2026. Woodlands currently operates locations in Tiburon, Kentfield and San Francisco and will add a smoothie bar and cafe at the San Mateo store.
