My nine year old son, Benjamin, is really into programming with Scratch and he's keen to play with electronics and learn MicroPython. This involvement is great because it allows us to bond over shared projects.
I've dug out an old MicroBit I had, purchased a Raspberry Pi Pico board/kit and also a ZumoBot 2040 robot. These tools are crucial for our explorations into programming and robotics.
Goal 1 is to wire up Neopixel LEDs in my living room controlled by a Pico board and an Android App using Kivy, while Goal 2 is programming the ZumoBot for exploring and mapping my flat.
Benjamin is enjoying playing with electronics on his own, programming the MicroBit with Scratch, while I've started to track my tinkering on a GitHub repository and plan to share recipes on my blog.
