""It's not fair having a highway cut through our community where people want to shop, go to school, or visit a beautiful destination like the Bluffs,""
""Having a safer street where it's easier to walk, to bike, to take transit is a benefit for the community.""
""That's not something everyone can do and it's not something we should have everyone do. We should be giving people options of how they can run local trips,""
Scarborough community members held a group bike ride on Kingston Road to call for safer conditions for cyclists and pedestrians. Danforth-Kingston 4 All reports the City of Toronto promised improvements for the Danforth Avenue and Kingston Road corridor but delayed implementation. Kingston Road experiences multiple injuries and occasional deaths each year among people walking, biking and driving. Advocates want narrower vehicle lanes, reduced speed limits, protected bike lanes and safer pedestrian crossings to better serve schools, places of worship, parks, shopping and access to the Bluffs. Phase 1 public consultation occurred in June 2024, Phase 2 is scheduled next month, and provincial Bill 212 forced project changes.
