A year and a half ago, SUNY Downstate faced severe financial challenges and physical disrepair, risking the loss of its essential health services. Recently, a $1 billion investment led by Governor Kathy Hochul has rejuvenated its future, ensuring a modern facility capable of addressing the healthcare needs of Central Brooklyn’s low-income community. The proposed upgrades include expanded and modernized emergency services, transformation of patient rooms from double to single occupancy, and the introduction of a new ambulatory surgery center to enhance oncology and cardiology care, while also improving crucial infrastructure for safety and operational efficiency.
The plan for SUNY Downstate aims to deliver a modern, state-of-the-art hospital, ensuring continued access to quality healthcare for the community.
Investments in upgrading infrastructure and facilities will not just enhance patient care, but also ensure the safety of both patients and staff.
