'Falsifying temps': Palo Alto VA fires veteran who captured hospital allegedly storing food unsafely
Briefly

Dennis Berkowitz, a veteran restaurateur, was fired as a volunteer from the Palo Alto VA Hospital after documenting unsafe food storage practices. He claimed food was stored at unsafe temperatures and that hospital staff falsified temperature records. Berkowitz photographed evidence showing food such as chili stored at temperatures far below health standards. He emphasized the vulnerability of patients facing chronic health conditions and expressed concern over food safety. Despite his allegations, the hospital denied any wrongdoing and refused to provide an inspection report.
"They don't care! They don't care," said Dennis Berkowitz. "It's below health standards... Our patients there are facing a lot of chronic health conditions and they're more vulnerable (to) food poisoning."
"I took a look at what they were doing, and I was very upset," Berkowitz said.
