Further Reflections on Teaching the Psychology of Living
Briefly

The author reflects on a rewarding experience teaching an undergraduate course entitled "Psychology of Living." Designed for a diverse group of students, the curriculum focused on critical life topics, including suicidology and coping with suffering. The class emphasized informed consent, as discussions around trauma and hopelessness could be challenging. Ultimately, students developed a deeper understanding of life's meaning and the importance of values and purpose, gaining insights into living intentionally amidst adversity.
The proposed curriculum of this new course readily attracted these 'Gen Z' students. However, a first class emphasizing informed consent was critical, as students needed to be ready for some of the unique content of this course.
In the 'Psychology of Living' course, lessons on suicide and suffering provided profound insights, encouraging students to clarify their values and seek purpose in their lives.
