RCS messaging adds end-to-end encryption between Android and iOS
Briefly

The rollout of iOS 18 brought RCS messaging to iPhones, and the GSMA has now added interoperable end-to-end encryption (E2EE) to RCS standards. This feature, based on the Messaging Layer Security protocol, aims to secure messages exchanged between iOS and Android devices. With E2EE, RCS will provide a high level of privacy and security, protecting users from potential scams and threats. While Google has offered E2EE since early 2024 for users of Google Messages, Apple is yet to implement it on its messaging platforms, promising future support for E2EE across its devices.
RCS will be the first large-scale messaging service to support interoperable E2EE between client implementations from different providers, offering unmatched privacy and security.
Apple expressed its commitment to end-to-end encryption for RCS, indicating plans for future updates across its devices to enhance user privacy.
