Verizon has reported an insider data breach that has affected almost half of its workforce, exposing sensitive employee information such as names, addresses, social security numbers, and compensation details. The breach was discovered three months after it occurred, but there is no evidence of malicious exploitation or widespread leakage of the data. Verizon is actively working to strengthen its internal security and is offering affected employees two-year identity theft protection and credit monitoring services.
'At this time, we have no evidence that this information has been misused or shared outside of Verizon as a result of this issue,' reads the Verizon data breach notification.
The data breach does not appear to have impacted customer information. Verizon is notifying applicable regulators about the incident and is taking steps to prevent similar incidents in the future.
'We are working to ensure our technical controls are enhanced to help prevent this type of situation from reoccurring and are notifying applicable regulators about the matter.'
