The visual evidence, taken with aerial cameras, shows how the four-meter figures... are being erased by the relentless passage of jeeps, motorbikes and ATVs.
The most important thing is the interaction between the communities and their landscape, because it is almost a cartography... a map containing specific landmarks: routes to follow, water sources, meeting places.
Largely concentrated in the regions of Arica and Tarapacá, in the extreme north of the country, the geoglyphs in Chile were drawn between 3,000 and 1,000 years ago.
Most of the damage is irreversible... although there are restoration techniques that could be applied, it seems to me that because of the magnitude of the damage, efforts might not suffice.
