Mike Lynch, a tech entrepreneur known as the British Bill Gates, is missing after his superyacht sank during a violent storm off Sicily. His daughter and four others are also missing, while 14 survived.
Officials indicated that the six missing individuals, including Lynch, are likely trapped inside the yacht, which sank during unexpectedly severe weather conditions, causing significant distress at sea.
Salvatore Cocina, head of Sicily's Civil Protection, commented on the intensity of the storm, noting, "The wind was very strong. Bad weather was expected, but not of this magnitude," revealing the severity of the situation.
Karsten Borner, a fellow sailor, described the incident, saying, "We noticed that the ship behind us was gone. The other boat went flat on the water, and then down," illustrating the sudden danger that arose.
