UK government plans to extend ransomware payment ban | Computer Weekly

The Home Office is today opening a consultation on proposals to address the ransomware threat to UK society, hoping to widen the scope of an existing payment ban.
The government has described the proposal as "world-leading", stating that cutting the payment flow would "strike at the heart" of the cyber criminal business model.
Security minister Dan Jarvis emphasized that driving down cyber crime is central to the government's mission, highlighting the $1bn flowing to ransomware criminals globally in 2023.
NCSC CEO Richard Horne noted that organizations of all sizes must build their defenses against cyber attacks, marking the consultation as essential in combating ransomware.
