Adtech trade groups warned that public backlash could trigger regulations threatening their business and proposed rules allowing data sharing for marketing while barring sales to law enforcement. David LeDuc of the Network Advertising Initiative criticized overbroad policies that would require strict data minimization or prohibit collection. The White House referred questions to ICE, which stated it respects civil liberties and privacy interests and uses lawful tools to remove dangerous criminal illegal aliens. No laws bar companies from selling such information to the federal government, and ICE, DHS, and Customs and Border Protection have previously purchased commercially available data for investigations.
