On October 9, The Internet Archive disclosed a significant data breach affecting over 31 million users, revealing compromised authentication data and previous exposure concerns.
Jake Moore from ESET remarked, "Hacking the past is usually technically impossible but this data breach is the closest we may ever come to it..."
The breach included personal information but fortunately, the stolen passwords are encrypted, highlighting the need for unique passwords across accounts.
HIBP noted that 54% of the compromised data had already been flagged as exposed in earlier breaches, questioning how securely the data was handled.
