The Computer Misuse Act (CMA) has remained unchanged since 1990, despite significant technological advancements and evolving cyber security threats that necessitate urgent updates.
The amendments I proposed to the Data Use and Access Bill seek to enable cyber security professionals to perform their duties effectively, unimpeded by outdated legal constraints.
Currently, the CMA criminalizes legitimate cyber security research which impedes crucial activities necessary for safeguarding the UK against increasingly sophisticated cyber attacks.
The CMA was originally enacted to address crimes against telephone exchanges, highlighting its outdated nature and the need for reform to adapt to modern cyber threats.
