Tell us about your experience taking antidepressants
Briefly

Antidepressants are the most prescribed mental health medications in Australia, with sertraline (Zoloft) entering the top 10 prescribed drugs list, highlighting their widespread use.
Despite high usage of antidepressants, there is limited high-quality evidence on safe ways to stop treatment, leading to withdrawal symptoms that may mimic depression.
The Maudsley Deprescribing Guidelines, co-authored by Dr. Mark Horowitz, provide evidence-based advice for clinicians on how to properly deprescribe antidepressants.
While antidepressants can be life-saving, many patients experience distressing withdrawal symptoms, causing them to continue medication longer than recommended, which is typically six to twelve months.
