A patent on crowdfunding. A patent on tracking packages. A patent on photo contests. These patents have harassed software developers and small businesses, but the landmark Alice decision curtailed these lawsuits.
The Patent Eligibility Restoration Act (PERA, S. 2140) would overturn Alice, allowing patent trolls to extort small businesses for common software use and inhibiting creators.
The PREVAIL Act (S. 2220) would limit public challenges to bad patents, undermining one of the most effective tools to eliminate improper patents.
This week, everyday users must show Congress that they oppose laws that enable patent trolls and would expand patent abuse in the tech industry.
