On a recent Friday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers intercepted a man attempting to smuggle more than 1,200 packages of methamphetamine disguised as watermelons, weighing almost 4,600 pounds and valued at about $5 million.
"As drug cartels continue to evolve their smuggling techniques, we will continue finding new and better ways to prevent these dangerous drugs and other contraband from entering the country," said Port Director Rosa E. Hernandez.
