In 2019, a preliminary examination of a site at Ravensdale Forest in County Louth was carried out. The Independent Commission for the Location of Victims' Remains (ICLVR), which has located the remains of several of the disappeared, stated it would conduct its first search for Capt Nairac. Lead investigator Jon Hill emphasized the importance of this search, revealing that the commission has gathered credible information that warrants further investigation, despite the uncertainty regarding the specifics of the new details.
Capt Robert Nairac, a British army officer, was abducted by the IRA during an undercover operation in 1977. He was beaten and murdered, and his body remains undiscovered. Hill mentioned that locating Nairac is particularly significant due to his profile, being one of 17 known individuals categorized as the disappeared. The upcoming search, prompted by new leads about his location, might uncover not only Nairac's remains but also other significant historical artifacts.
