In the first half of 2024, Austria saw a significant 66 percent rise in naturalisations, with two-thirds of new citizens being descendants of Nazi victims, according to Statistics Austria.
From January to June 2024, 4,125 individuals acquired Austrian citizenship while living abroad, with minors comprising a notable 33.0 percent of the new citizens.
Statistics Austria revealed that 37 percent of those naturalised were descendants of politically persecuted victims of the Nazi regime, largely coming from countries like Israel and the USA.
The increase in naturalisations reflects a broader trend driven by long-term integration and successful demonstration of German language skills, significantly contributing to Austria's diverse citizenry.
