Seventy-eight years after the original airborne operation during World War II, paratroopers from eight NATO countries jumped into the Netherlands, commemorating the Battle of Arnhem.
The anniversary event saw 700 paratroopers jump from 12 aircraft in honor of the original operation that aimed to secure key bridges and advance into Germany.
Despite capturing Eindhoven and Nijmegen, the airborne troops failed to secure the crucial bridge at Arnhem, losing the element of surprise crucial for their success.
The remembrance honors not only the valor of those who fought but also provides context to the challenges faced by the allied forces during Operation Market Garden.
