Official estimate of trans population in England and Wales dropped by ONS
Briefly

Official statistics estimating the number of transgender people in England and Wales have lost their accredited status after findings from the 2021 census were deemed misinterpreted by many respondents.
The Office for National Statistics now considers the previously reported figure of 262,000 trans people as experimental data, a significant downgrade affecting policy resource allocations.
Concerns arose particularly with data from Tower Hamlets, which showed an unusually high proportion of trans individuals, raising questions about the accuracy and interpretation of the census question.
Dr. Michael Biggs remarked that the flaw in the census question was long overdue for recognition and stressed the need for clearer wording in future data collection efforts.
