The death toll among firefighters who have died of 9/11-related illnesses now exceeds the 343 firefighters who died in the 9/11 attacks themselves.
These people are suffering every day just trying to stay alive between scans, the uncertainty of those outcomes. Brosi said.
Brosi added that many of the cancers afflicting members of the department are aggressive in lethality.
The bill, sponsored by New York junior Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, extends ongoing federal funding for 9/11 first responder healthcare through the 2033 fiscal year.
