AMTEC, a subsidiary of National Presto Industries, is a major manufacturer of ammunition. Recently, it was reported that InterLock hacked AMTEC, exfiltrating around 4,200 GB of data comprising almost three million files. DataBreaches attempted to reach out to NDC for confirmation on the attack but received no response. InterLock claimed that the inadequate monitoring at NDC allowed the breach to occur. Even after negotiating with InterLock, NDC did not reach a satisfactory resolution, given that the stolen information was not of significant third-party interest due to its low-tech manufacturing nature.
To be clear, secrecy was never an option as we are required to make certain disclosures in the event of a cyber incident. Those disclosures have already been made directly to U.S. government agencies as well as the public.
The people responsible for monitoring in the company were not doing their job.
