MoneyGram announced on September 27, 2024, that an unauthorized third party accessed and acquired personal information of certain consumers, with ongoing investigations underway.
The breach exposed a range of sensitive data including names, dates of birth, contact information, government-issued identification documents, and Social Security numbers, raising major privacy concerns.
Despite the hack affecting a potentially vast number of their 150 million customers, MoneyGram has not yet estimated the total number of victims impacted by this data breach.
MoneyGram assured customers that only 'a limited number of Social Security numbers' had been obtained and is working with cybersecurity experts and law enforcement to address the breach.
