A massive security breach has been confirmed in France that has impacted almost half of its citizens. The breach involved two service providers for medical insurance companies, Viamedis and Almerys. The attackers used credentials stolen from healthcare professionals to access the systems at the two companies.
This is the first time that there has been a violation of this magnitude (in France). It was suspected to be the biggest ever leak of its kind, in France.
Personal information of around 33 million customers was stolen, including birth dates, social security numbers, and insurance details. However, no banking credentials, medical data, or contact numbers were lost. The French Data Protection Authority is working with the affected companies to contact all impacted customers.
