Lake Tahoe May Soon Allow eMTBs on Singletrack
Briefly

The Basin Wide Trails Analysis Project proposed by the U.S. Forest Service would open up 100 miles of non-motorized trails to electric mountain bikes, marking a significant change in trail access.
The proposal aims to reclassify 87 miles of trails to allow eMTBs, fostering a network for riders around Lake Tahoe while balancing the interests of non-motorized users.
Despite pushback from equestrian groups concerned about noise and environmental impacts, the U.S. Forest Service confirmed eMTBs meet the criteria for non-motorized trails.
After a ban due to legal disputes in 2019, an environmental analysis in 2021 acknowledged eMTBs as acceptable users on previously restricted trails.
