The Iranian judiciary announced that Christian Weber, an Austrian citizen detained for unspecified crimes in West Azerbaijan Province, was released and handed over to Austria's ambassador in Tehran.
In a statement from Mizan news agency, it was noted that his release was granted in consideration of Islamic mercy, although no details about the charges were disclosed.
Austria previously mentioned in 2022 that one of its citizens was arrested in Iran, clarifying that the charges were not related to the protests following the death of Mahsa Amini.
Weber’s case highlights ongoing tensions and issues surrounding the detentions of foreign nationals in Iran, emphasizing how political situations can influence judicial actions, including releases.
